It started in a park

We weren't looking for it. We were two days into the Ha Giang Loop — a motorbike route through the mountains of far north Vietnam — stopping at viewpoints between villages.

At one of them, a group of locals were playing a game we'd never seen: kicking a small feathered shuttle in a circle, keeping it off the ground, no net, no rules.

We pulled over. They waved us in. We were terrible. They were kind about it.

We didn't stop thinking about it for the rest of the trip.

It's called đá cầu

Sounds like "da cow." Vietnam's been playing it for over 100 years — woven into everyday life the way kicking a ball around is everywhere else. No nets. No teams. No rules anyone bothered to write down. Keep it up, keep it going, don't let it drop.

Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it.

We couldn't get a good one

We brought one home. It didn't survive.

The cheap ones fall apart fast — feathers bend, the base splits, and the thing that made it feel so good on that mountain just stops working.

We tried to buy a better one. Couldn't find one that shipped near us, held up, or felt right.

So we built our own

Stronger feathers. A weighted base that gives a clean ting when you catch it right. Built to survive a backpack, a beach, daily use — and still feel like it did on the loop.

That's FlyKIK. That's the whole thing.

We got it tattooed.

Some trips you remember. This one we wear. The shuttle's on us permanently now — a reminder of the village, the loop, and the game we couldn't leave behind.

FlyKIK isn't a product we picked. It's one we couldn't put down. 🪶

A note on where this comes from

We're not Vietnamese. We don't pretend to be. đá cầu isn't ours and we'd never claim it.

FlyKIK exists for one reason: this game is too good to stay unknown outside Asia, and nobody was bringing it out properly. The game belongs to Vietnam. We just built a version that travels and lasts.
